Challenge
Bucher Municipal appointed ArmstrongB2B® to support the marketing of its brand-new range of CityCat compact sweepers, which was set to launch in 2020. Taking a lead in the product naming, brand development, messaging and launch communications, we were to amplify the advancements in technology and driver comfort through animations, while communicating the overall benefits of ownership to fleet managers and purchasing teams.

Strategy
The new range offered both drivers and fleet managers many benefits. These included increased driver comfort with better suspension and steering, and an armrest with ergonomically perfected controls. All new sweepers are built on the same ‘platform’ (everything under the cab, chassis, wheels, steering and suspension), offering greater flexibility to a fleet manager who can use the same machine for sweeping, washing and spreading. It also makes spare parts, servicing and maintenance easier to manage. Our strategic approach involved a full analysis of the established players, their marketing approach and the branding of their technology.

Creative
We felt CityCat was such a strong and well-established name, that to change it would weaken Bucher Municipal’s brand position. We instead chose to enhance the new range by focusing on the technology within the sweepers and creating technology brands to strengthen the overall CityCat brand.

Challenge

 

Bucher Municipal appointed ArmstrongB2B® to support the global launch of its new CityCat compact sweeper range. The challenge was not only to introduce a new generation of machines, but to clearly communicate significant advancements in technology, driver comfort and operational efficiency to a diverse B2B audience.

This included both operators, focused on usability and comfort, and fleet managers and purchasing teams, who prioritise total cost of ownership, flexibility and ease of maintenance.

In a competitive and functionally driven category, the campaign needed to cut through with a clear, compelling proposition, balancing technical detail with accessible, benefit-led messaging. At the same time, it was critical to maintain and strengthen the established equity of the CityCat name while positioning the new range as a meaningful step forward.

Our strategy centred on translating complex product innovation into clear, relevant value for each audience.

The new CityCat range introduced a platform-based approach, enabling multiple applications such as sweeping, washing and spreading within a single machine. This provided significant operational flexibility, alongside simplified servicing, maintenance and parts management.

We aligned messaging around two key perspectives:

  • Driver experience, focusing on comfort, control and ease of use
  • Fleet efficiency, highlighting versatility, reduced complexity and long-term value

To ensure strong market positioning, we conducted a detailed analysis of competitor messaging and branding approaches, identifying an opportunity to elevate how technology was communicated within the category. This informed a strategy that positioned CityCat as both technologically advanced and operationally practical.

Creative

 

Recognising the strength and heritage of the CityCat name, we chose to build on its existing equity rather than replace it. Instead, we enhanced the range by creating distinct technology-focused narratives that reinforced innovation within the overarching brand.

The campaign brought these innovations to life through a combination of high-impact visual and motion content. This included:

  • Technical CGI renders showcasing key systems in isolation
  • Photo-realistic CGI visuals placing machines in real-world environments for global relevance
  • A teaser animation to build anticipation ahead of launch
  • A full product animation highlighting key features and benefits
  • Live-action street footage filmed on location in Switzerland

This content was supported by a comprehensive suite of launch communications, ensuring consistency across all channels.

To amplify impact, Bucher hosted an exclusive pre-launch event in Switzerland for dealers, providing an early, immersive introduction to the new range ahead of the global launch in July 2020.
