Summary
120 Year Anniversary Campaign
Kawneer marked 120 years as an architectural aluminum systems manufacturer in 2026. Rather than another heritage campaign built on nostalgia, ArmstrongB2B® created a single continuous streetscape spanning two centuries, repositioning Kawneer from a brand that talks about itself to the enabler behind the buildings architects create. The campaign launched in Q1 2026 with launch emails opening at 36%, more than double the 17-23% industry average, and social engagement running at more than twice the category norm.
Kawneer has manufactured architectural aluminum systems since 1906, and 2026 marked its 120th anniversary, more than double the history of most competitors in the category. But the challenge was not simply celebrating longevity. Every brand positions itself as the leader on price, scale, innovation, and sustainability, so every brand sounds the same, and a straightforward “we’ve been doing this longer” claim risked reading as just another boast.
The category truth pointed the other way. Buildings are remembered not for the systems behind them but for how they perform, feel, and endure. Kawneer’s value is not what it claims for itself but what architects achieve because Kawneer stands behind them. The anniversary needed to reposition Kawneer from a leader that talks about itself into the enabler that talks about what others build, turning 120 years from a boast into proof, credible to architects, specifiers, contractors, and Kawneer’s own employees alike.
The strategic move was to stop talking about the brand and put the building in frame instead. Kawneer’s role became the “Intel Inside” of great architecture: quietly present, rarely stated, but foundational to everything that endures.
This shaped the creative territory directly. Rather than sepia photography, a timeline, or a montage, the campaign needed a single idea flexible enough to carry across key visuals, social, and email over a full year, anchoring Kawneer’s brand refresh and its 2028 goals of 90% brand awareness and increased specification.
The idea is one continuous street, 120 years apart. On the left, 1906-era America: stone facades, a newsstand, cobblestones, period crowds. On the right, the same street today: glazed frontages, a grocery, commuters mid-stride. The two eras share the same camera height, perspective, scale, and light so precisely that they read as a single photograph, bridged by a red “120” whose zero becomes a roundel carrying “Years.” Beneath it: Building the Legacy, the anniversary expression of Kawneer’s brand philosophy, Building Legacies.
The street was built, not generated. CGI modeling established the composition, materials, and light, enriched by art-directed AI prompting and finished with Photoshop handwork, with period accuracy drawn from research into each era’s architecture, wardrobe, and events. The system flexes with discipline: emailers pair the device with genuine 1906 archive of Kawneer’s first factory, while signatures, social, and banners carry the roundel, the line, and the red, building one consistent memory structure at every size.
The campaign launched in Q1 2026 with the hero visual, launch social and email, web banner, and webpage. First-quarter results beat category benchmarks across the board, with launch emails opening at 36% against a 17-23% industry norm and social engagement running at more than double the 2-3% category average.
